I-Search blog on Skating an innovation

The topic I have chosen is pretty close to home for me. I have been skateboarding since 6th grade but it’s taken me a long time to work my way up to understanding it. True, I know how it works and it’s caught my attention. The fact remains I want to see where it all started, HOW it started and where it’s going. I want to know who started it. What we can do with it and how has it changed the world, what are its impacts on the world today.
In the very recent news articles Iv found competitions, new locations and people on the scene of the skateboard. The articles range from the New York Times to a Surf line website. Articles like Dogtown U.S.A., In the New York Times return to the 70’s for a closer to home example of skating taking off. Articles such as Native Americas Vibrant Skateboard Subculture explain how even as far as we have come with it, we still have a bright horizon to where were going.
This I-Search might be challenging at times to find NEW information, but the topic itself is too rich to pass up. The Dogtown Skate co. Website and popular or national news has less then enough information to go around, But the challenge lies in the importance of the information, not the amount. It’s Easy to look through news articles for surf or skate related news on the coastlines because of its booming subculture in those regions. Books and movies have been made pretty accurate to history, being made by the people themselves who where there at the start. The movie that set me off was Lords of Dogtown (2005) A biographical history, Conducted by Stacy Perelta and a number of skaters who “Ignited this flame”.
The topic of skating and new horizons in it is vast in a sense that it never went away once it started. There have been and are new people starting new ways to look at and approach the board. New competitions, new tricks or boards in general. Recently skatboards havent been enough for modern day skaters.The science behind it is coming into common knowlage as well safety.Its come very far from where it started and its going to keep moving ahead.
There are four ways it can help me broaden my knolage and horrizon on skateboarding. First i can take appart how the board works and why it works, what are they tweaking to make it faster. Second is local and national competetion, whos the best and Skateboarding in the olympics.Like my boarding this subject never held a dull moment, exept when my board gets thrashed. I can honestly say I look foward to spending this time topic for mt I-search.
